In November of 2012, a series of focus groups were conducted among parents with a goal of uncovering insights into the motivators and barriers to remaining in Scouts Canada programs.
The goal was to inform strategies to reduce attrition. Focus groups managed by a professional research firm were conducted with:
Continuing parents with a child aged 10 – 12 years who moved on from Cubs to Scouts
Non-continuing parents with a child aged 10 – 11 years who decided to quit after Cubs
Each group was comprised of 50% whose child started Scouting in Beavers and 50% whose child started Scouting in Cubs
Groups were conducted online, and parents engaged their children at home to ensure that a youth voice was included
